My purpose in this article is to address the paradigm as presented by the character Socrates in passage 472c-e of Book V of Plato's Republic. My approach will be limited to the analysis of this passage which I consider central to understanding the relationship between paradigm and method in the Republic as a justification for Socrates's investigation of justice. In short, I intend here to show that the method used by Socrates is a producer of paradigms. A paradigm is a model constituted by a descriptivist procedure that serves as an evaluative criterion with which approximations can be made.References
