The aim of this paper is to examine as naively as possible the semantic behavior of open formulae in modal languages. Assuming, for example, that a certain semantic value is associated with the formula ‘x is a teacher’, what would be the semantic values associated with the formulae ‘It is not the case that x is a teacher’ and ‘It is possible that x is a teacher’? To this end, two specific types of value assignments for variables are introduced: (a) absolute assignments and (b) relative assignments.
