Trata-se de expor a contraposição crítica de Voltaire à metafísica da linguagem, pelo reconhecimento de seu caráter convencional e consequentemente arbitrário. Ademais, quer-se mostrar que tal crítica é harmônica ao projeto humanista de multiplicação de estilos para o texto filosófico.
