Abstract

The aim of this paper is to analyze Hans Jonas’ position on biological engineering (or biotechnology), considered by him as the most recent chapter in the history of technology. Precisely for this reason, it is necessary to analyze its methodology of action and, at the same time, its ethical consequences, given that the novum of human action in this field becomes even more ambiguous and, given its unprecedented magnitude, more dangerous. We will analyze, therefore, how Jonas indicates that the making procedure of biological engineering requires a new ethical horizon, in which responsibility appears as its undeniable requirement.
